Myopia, widely known as nearsightedness, is one of the most common vision concerns affecting children.
Studies show that the amount of people affected by myopia could eventually get as high as 50% worldwide—but our team is here to help. Through our compassionate, comprehensive eye care process, we can detect early signs of myopia and provide your child with a personalized myopia treatment plan to help manage its progression and preserve their clear sight.
The first step, though, is having an eye exam.
Request your child’s next appointment with the Visionary Eye Centre team today. Let’s work together to keep your child’s future as clear as it is bright.
Myopia is a common eye condition that typically develops during a child’s school years. It can affect their ability to see distant objects clearly, and it can progress as your child grows.
Myopia develops when a person’s eye becomes too elongated or their cornea becomes too steep—affecting how light focuses in the eye. Myopia control can help correct your child’s sight while managing the condition’s progression.
Though it may not appear significant initially, myopia can lead to complications later in life. Some prevalent long-term effects include:
Severe cases of myopia could increase a person’s lifetime risk of retinal detachment, which may result in sudden and permanent vision loss. However, taking appropriate measures and seeking timely treatment can help mitigate these risks and safeguard your eyesight.
We offer a dedicated process to help manage myopia progression with a series of myopia control lenses, including MyoCare, Stellest, and Ortho-k lens strategies. Let’s look at how each of these strategies helps us provide the care your child deserves.
In mild cases, prescription lenses may be the right choice for your child. However, we can monitor the condition’s progression during their regular eye exam appointments.
Recommended for children 10 and younger, MyoCare lenses use alternating ring-like zones of focus and defocus to help manage myopia progression while also helping provide clear sight for all viewing angles.
Essilor Stellest lenses utilize over 1000 invisible “lenslets” to help correct your child’s vision while also using a myopic defocus technique to help manage your child’s myopia progression.
Ortho-k, or orthokeratology, is a strategy we can offer where your child wears specially designed contact lenses while sleeping. These lenses work overnight to reshape the cornea and control myopia.
Your child can then remove the lenses in the morning and enjoy clear sight throughout the day.
Remember, myopia can be controlled effectively if detected early. Request your child’s eye exam today at Visionary Eye Centre, and let us help control the progression of myopia.
