What Happens in a Contact Lens Exam

In your contact lens exam, we carefully check for common conditions like dry eye or astigmatism that could affect your lens fit and comfort. Next, we determine your contact lens prescription, so we can advise on the types of contact lenses that will work well for you.
During the fitting process, we use our corneal topographer to understand the curvature of your eyes and identify any irregularities. You’ll then receive a trial pair of lenses to test for comfort and clarity. If adjustments are needed, we’ll work with you to find a great fit and provide a full supply once you’re happy. that make the essential oil layer of your tears. When the glands are blocked or not working, your tears can’t properly protect your eyes’ surfaces.

Our Contact Lenses
Finding the right type of contact lens can vastly improve your visual clarity and comfort. At Visionary Eye Centre, we offer a diverse selection of contact lens types and brands to meet each patient’s particular vision and eye health needs.
Here’s a closer look at the types of lenses we provide
- Multifocals: These lenses correct both near and distant vision in a single lens, ideal for people with presbyopia who don’t want to rely on reading glasses or progressives.
- Ortho-k: Worn overnight, these lenses gently reshape your cornea to temporarily correct vision, offering a glasses-free experience during the day.
- Sclerals: These can be essential for people with irregular corneas due to keratoconus or other conditions or severe dry eye. These larger lenses rest on the sclera for enhanced comfort and hydration.
- Torics: Specially designed for astigmatism, toric lenses provide clear, stable vision by accommodating the unique shape of your cornea.
- Soft contacts: A go-to choice for many contact lens wearers, these lenses can provide all-day comfort and are available in daily, bi-weekly, and monthly options to suit your lifestyle.

Tips for Taking Care of Your Contact Lenses
We’ll go over contact lens care in full detail at your eye exam. But whether it’s your first time or you’re a contact lens veteran, it’s always good to stay on top of contact lens care.
When caring for contacts, be sure to:
- Thoroughly wash your hands before inserting or removing contact lenses
- Store your contact lenses in contact lens solution
- Replace your contact lens solution every night
- Replace your contact lens case at least every 3 months (or immediately if you have any kind of eye infection)
- Never wear your contact lenses if you have an eye infection or injury, like pink eye or a corneal abrasion
